Provincial Highway 8, 14A (14Jia), and 9D (9 Din) Traffic Control Information for August 2021.

A:

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 184.5 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from August 1, 2021 – August 31, 2021.

Specifically:

1. Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) at 34 km + 180 m (Kenanguang Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2021– August 31, 2021

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 117k+380 (Songxue Lodge – Xiaofengkou section) for the Road Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2021– August 31, 2021

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 117k+380 (Guanyuan section) for the Road Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2021– August 31, 2021

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 140 km + 923 m (Hengshan Tunnel Section) and 162 km + 650 m (Guyuan Tunnel Section) for the Tunnel Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2021– August 31, 2021

5. Provincial Highway 8 at 168 km + 260 m (Tianxiang Section) for the New Rockfall Prevention Tunnel Construction Work

Control Period: August 1 – August 31, 2021

A: Control Period: Monday – Friday

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, 10:30 – 10:40 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

B: Traffic Control Time: 17:00 pm – 08:30 am (night time), weekends and public holidays

Passage Time: Accessibility follows the traffic lights. Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. (night time including public holidays)

6. Provincial Highway 8 at 170 km + 500 m and 179 km + 300 m (Cimu Bridge and Baisha Bridge Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2021– August 31, 2021

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work

7. Provincial Highway 8 at 182 km (West Changchun Tunnel Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2021– August 31, 2021

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

 

Note: Traffic control for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19 km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by #5-7 of the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14Jia) will be affected by #1-7 of the above list (for both directions).

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip. B:

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be “Steel Cable Monitoring Work" bridge load test. Traffic will be controlled during the test between 170.5 km – 182 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Cimu Bridge – Changchun Tunnel section) from August 3, 2021 – August 5, 2021.

Specifically:

  1. Provincial Highway 8 at 170.5 km (Cimu Bridge Section)

Traffic Control Time: August 3, 2021, 19:00 pm – second morning 5:00 am

Control Section: Heliu Campground (at 169 km) – West of Jiuqidong Tunnel (at 172 km)

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 19:00 – 19:10, 20:00 – 20:10, 21:00 – 21:10 etc.)

  1. Provincial Highway 8 at 179.5 km (No. 1 Baisha Bridge 

Traffic Control Time: August 4, 2021, 19:00 pm – second morning 5:00 am
Control Section: East of the Xipan Tunnel (at 177 km) – West of Changchun Tunnel (at 182 km)

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 19:00 – 19:10, 20:00 – 20:10, 21:00 – 21:10 etc.)

  1. Provincial Highway 8 at 179.8 km (No. 2 Baisha Bridge )

Traffic Control Time: August 5, 2021, 19:00 pm – second morning 5:00 am

Control Section: East of the Xipan Tunnel (at 177 km) – West of Changchun Tunnel (at 182 km)

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 19:00 – 19:10, 20:00 – 20:10, 21:00 – 21:10 etc.)

 

During the traffic control period, in case of emergency official duties (such as police, firefighting missions or disaster repairs, etc.), the relevant agencies should immediately report Taroko Roadworks Section (The roadworks section telephone 03-8610775 is answered by the on-duty staff) and inform the on-site traffic control personnel to cooperate with the release. If the test cannot be carried out due to typhoon, heavy rain or disaster, the test will be rescheduled and further notice will be given.

The Highway 9 and 9D (9Din) will be the Slope Stabilization Construction Work as the following:

Provincial Highway 9D at 68 km + 600 m (Renshui - Daqingshui Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: August 2, 2021– August 13, 2021
