Established on November 28, 1991, Buluowan Service Station located 10 km from Taroko's entrance and 13 km from Tianxiang on  the Central Cross-Island Highway at 177.8 km. Turn off the highway near the east entrance of Xipan Tunnel and follow the gently ascending road for 2 km. The station sits on a nearly 9 hectare doubled-terraced terrain that is 370 m above sea level. It has facilities providing administration and information services, simple meals, and more. The Buluowan terraces were once home to the Truku tribe, and were even inhabited during the Neolithic Period. It is now a recreation area and native plants restoration area.   Services Tourist information center, administration offices, Truku Tribe Handicrafts Exhibition Hall, briefing room, Idas Hall, a souvenir shop, and the Meander Core Scenic Trail and Buluowan Suspension Bridge (no needs for reservation, opening hours 08:30 - 16:30, last admission at 16:00) are found on the lower terrace.    Taroko Village Hotel is situated on the upper terrace. It offers lodging in unique steel-beamed, wooden cabins for groups of 2, 4, or 8 people with a capacity of 32 cabins. The Briefing Room, Idas Hall The briefing room and Idas Hall are the multimedia and film facilities at Buluowan. The music documentary Echoing‧Taroko introduces the dances, ceremonies, culture, and traditional arts of the Truku people. Landscapes of Taroko is a short film that tells the story of a Truku stone sculptor who meets a girl studying geology. It is entertaining and suitable for the whole family. English subtitles can be provided. Truku Tribe Handicrafts Exhibition Hall The Truku Tribe Handicrafts Exhibition Hall showcases the Truku people's beautifully hand-woven textiles and rattan works, with a souvenir shop on the second floor. 3. Meander Core Trail This trail follows the edge of Buluowan's lower terrace, providing a clear view of the layers of gneiss formed by the Liwu River. The wooden walkway circles around the Meander Core, with an observation deck and pavilion to rest at along the way. From the trail, visitors can not only observe the terrain, but also various insects and plants such as lilies. Overlooking Xipan and the Liwu River Gorge, Meander Core Trail has developed into a natural recreational area. 4. Upper Terrace  Located at the upper terrace of Buluowan, just go through Taroko Village Hotel reception hall. Behind the cabins, there is a short 300 m nature path through cool bamboo groves. Beautiful plants, birds and insects can be seen here as well as the magnificent "strangling fig trees".    Films Times 1. Established in 1992 as Lushui Service Station, the office moved to the newly built Tianxiang Visitor Center in 2009 and was renamed Tianxiang Service Station. Tianxiang Service Station is responsible for all recreational areas between Cimu Bridge and Xinbaiyang on the Central Cross-Island Highway, with responsibilities including environmental maintenance and management, as well as offering tourist information and interpretation services. The main areas of management include: Heliu Campground, Lushui Campground, Lushui Geological Exhibition Hall, Lushui Lower Terrace Central Cross-Island Highway Construction History Exhibition Hall, Tianxiang recreation area, and other recreational spots. Lushui Geological Exhibition Hall Introduction There are eleven exhibits in this hall: a history of the earth’s evolution, the age of geology, tectonics: the creation of plates, the face of the land, a geologic history of the Liwu River Basin, geologic terraces, the formation of a gorge, the changes of stones, cliffs, gold dust in the region, and the formation of Taiwan.   Services 1. Providing free safety helmets checkout for visitors (Tianxiang Service Station only).   Introduction Tianxiang is located in the east section of the Central Cross-Island Highway, approximately 19 km from Taroko. Tianxiang's rich variety of natural and cultural resources is known even to international visitors. The area includes: hotels, restaurants, bus stops, parking lots, a post office, and other facilities. Tianxiang is a wonderful stop to immerse yourself in Taroko; visitors can choose to stay at Silks Place Taroko Hotel, Tianxiang Youth Activity Center, or the Heliu camping grounds.   Taroko is not only world-famous for its marble gorge, but the Park is also rich in history, culture, and a wide diversity of environments ranging from high mountains to low valleys. The plethora of flora and fauna attracts many hikers. In addition to lectures on Taroko's unique aspects, mountaineering classes are also available. The classes hope to cultivate respect for mountaineering safety and environmental ethics since visitors come in close contact with Taroko's ecosystems. Mt. Hehuan (Hehuanshan) is situated at the west of Taroko National Park, as part of the northern region of Taiwan's Central Mountain Range. The area features several mountains over 3000 m tall, including Mt. Hehuan Main Peak, Hehuan North Peak, Hehuan West Peak, Hehuan East Peak and Mt. Shimen. During the Ice Age, Eurasia's animals began to migrate south. This, combined with the isolating effect of an island, has made Taiwan one of the most ecologically diverse areas on the Tropic of Cancer. On mountains over 3000 m tall, the even more isolated flora and fauna have also evolved into unique species. The Mt. Hehuan area is no exception, being home to a large variety of living organisms endemic to Taiwan. The source of the Liwu, Dajia, and Zhuoshui rivers originate here. Signs of headward erosion are visible on the terrain, which is predominantly made up of loose slate weathered and broken by wind and snow. The height above sea level causes temperatures to differ widely between day and night, strong winds, and a clearly delineated four seasons. Average temperatures are 18-20 degrees below sea level temperatures. Since snow falls during winter, and the Wushe branch road of the Central Cross-Island Highway- Provincial Highway 14A (14 Jia)  crosses through Mt. Hehuan, it has become a popular spot to enjoy the snowy landscape. Opening Hours 8:30 a.m.～16:30 p.m. Everyday (closed the 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month and the day before Lunar Chinese New Year) Open Holidays (If holiday falls on Monday then closed Tuesday.) If the road becomes blocked by rockfall, landslides, or heavy snow on the Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia), the service station will be closed. The snow season will be from December to February. Services Mt. Hehuan Service Station has an exhibition hall, public restrooms and a vendor area. The exhibition hall displays navigational images and photographs of the high-altitude environment, as well as pressed flower specimens.
