The Eastern Region Branch Office Highway Bureau, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14 Jia) and 110.2 km – 184.5 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from November 1, 2023 – November 30, 2023.

Specifically: (East bound for west)

1. Provincial Highway 8 at 179.5 km (Xipan Dam section) for the Upper Slope Stabilization Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:30 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: November 1, 2023 – November 30, 2023

The road traffic control

Five Passage Daily: (1) 10:00 am once, (2) 11:30 – 12:30, (3) 14:00 open once, (4) 15:30 open once, (5) 17:00- the second morning 8:30 am (road open at night)

Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

 

Please wait patiently and arrive earlier at the control point before the passage time. Please cooperate, drive carefully and pass sequentially; the emergency repair team also reminds drivers that the disaster road section is still in the emergency repair stage. In addition, if it is affected by unexpected conditions or typhoons, heavy rains, earthquakes and other weather conditions, emergency road closures (including road closure control at night), it will not be ruled out if necessary to ensure road users safety. Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

 

East to west: The east entrance from Taroko Arch Gate at 184.5 km highway marker to the traffic control point at 179.5 km Baisha No. 2 Bridge (Xipan Dam section) is about 5 km / about 8 minutes by car.

West to east: The west from Tianxiang at 167.6 km to the traffic control point at 179.5 km (Xipan Dam section) is about 11.9 km / about 20 minutes by car.

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 156.2 km (Luoshao section) for the Upper Slope Stabilization Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Control Period: November 1, 2023 – November 30, 2023

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 157.7 km (Xibao section) for the Lower Slope Stabilization Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Control Period: November 1, 2023 – November 30, 2023

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 164 km (Guyuan section) for the Upper Slope Stabilization Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Control Period: November 1, 2023 – November 30, 2023

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work

Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction. (Traffic controls for do not apply on weekends and public holidays.)

 

 

5. Provincial Highway 8 at 117 km + 400 m Guanyuan Disaster Road Section for the emergency repair for the slope. The control section is between 114.6 km – 120.6 km. (about 64 kilometers away from Taroko Arch Gate-east entrance to Taroko gorge, east to west, about 1 hour and 50 minutes driving time)/ (about 4 kilometers away from Dayuling, west to east).

The passage period will be adjusted, respectively, 5 times daily from (1) 7:00 am - 8:00 am, (2) 10:00 am – 10:10 am, (3) 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, and (4) 3:00 pm – 3:10 pm. (5) 5:00 pm – 5:10 pm.

Traffic Control Period: November 1, 2023 – November 30, 2023

Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

Road traffic control time: 24 hrs including public holidays and weekends

Road closed during the night: 5:10 pm - the next morning 7:00 am

 

The emergency repair team will arrange personnel to guard and control the 117.4 km disaster site on Provincial Highway 8 during each passage time. The construction site traffic control will open on time, depending on the slope conditions. Please wait patiently and arrive earlier at the control point before the passage time. Please cooperate, drive carefully and pass sequentially; the emergency repair team also reminds drivers that the disaster road section is still in the emergency repair stage. During the passage period, drivers should be aware that if the weather conditions are not good (heavy rainfall, dense fog causing an inability to monitor the slope, etc.) the emergency repair team is permitted to close the road and prohibiting the passage of people and vehicles.
