Road partially Open /Road closed Guanyuan section between Mt. Hehuan Police Station (114.6 km) and Jinma Tunnel East Opening (120.6 km)

The road opens 4 times a day for road users between Mt. Hehuan Police Station (114.6 km) and Jinma Tunnel East Opening (120.6 km) on Provincial Highway 8.

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 187.7 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from April 6, 2023 – April 30, 2023.

Specifically:  

 

1. 117 km + 400 m Guanyuan Disaster Road Section on the Provincial Highway 8. The control section is from Jinma Tunnel's east entrance at 114.6 km highway marker (about 64 kilometers away from Taroko Arch Gate/about 1 hour and 45 minute driving time) to Guanyuan at 120.6 km (about 4 kilometers away from Dayuling). The passage period will be adjusted, respectively, 4 times a day from (1) 7:00 am - 8:00 am, (2) 10:00 am – 10:10 am, (3) 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, and (4) 3:00 pm – 3:10 pm. There are four times passages daily in total.

 

The emergency repair team will arrange personnel to guard and control the 117.4k disaster site on Provincial Highway 8 during each passage time. The construction site traffic control will open on time, depending on the slope conditions. Please wait patiently and arrive earlier at the control point before the passage time. Please cooperate, drive carefully and pass sequentially; the emergency repair team also reminds drivers that the disaster road section is still in the emergency repair stage. During the passage period, drivers should be aware that if the weather conditions are not good (heavy rainfall, dense fog cannot monitor the slope, etc.) the emergency repair team is permitted to close the road and prohibiting the passage of people and vehicles.

Road Closed Control Period: April 6, 2023 – April 30, 2023

Passage time: (1) 7:00 am - 8:00 am, (2) 10:00 am – 10:10 am, (3) 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, and (4) 3:00 pm – 3:10 pm

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

Road closed time: 24hr including public holidays and weekends

Please plan your trip accordingly.

 

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 149 km (Ciyun Bridge section) for the Slope Improvement Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 7:00 am – 6:00 pm

Control Period: April 10, 2023 – May 11, 2023

Passage time: Every 2 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 07:00~07:10、09:00~09:10、11:00~12:00、14:00~14:10、16:00~16:10.)

Passage period: 6:00 pm – the next day morning 7:00 am (Night time no traffic controls, including public holidays and weekends)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 182 km (Changchun Shrine section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8 am – 5 pm

Control Period: April 10, 2023 – May 10, 2023

Passage time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00-08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

Traffic controls for #2-3 construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

 

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Provincial Highway 9 & 9D Road Construction Traffic Control Information for April 2023

Road Open/Construction Traffic Control.

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Nan'ao Works Section) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety on Provincial Highway 9.

The Provincial Highway 9 will be the Slop Construction Work as the following:

 

  1. Provincial Highway 9 at 117k+595 ~ 118k+840 km (Xin’ao Tunnel Section) for the Replacement of Tunnel Fire Pipe Clamps Work

Control Period: March 27, 2023 - April 9, 2023 (No traffic controls during April 1, 2023- April 5, 2023 public holidays)

Control Time: 8:00 am to 8:00 pm

Closed one lane for construction work and open one direction for traffic. In order to take into account the safety of road users and construction work, single-lane traffic control is implemented on the outer lane of the northbound line in the tunnel during the construction period (single-lane closed construction). Road users are advised to cooperate with the on-site construction personnel to direct the traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

  1. Provincial Highway 9D (9 Ding) at 51 km +900 ~ 52 km +388 (Ao’hua Tunnel) for the fire protection and lighting equipment replacement works.

Control Period: March 27, 2023 - April 21, 2023 (No traffic controls during April 1, 2023- April 5, 2023 public holidays)

Control Time: 8:00 pm to the next morning 8:00 am

Closed one lane for construction work and open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

 

  1. Provincial Highway 9D (9 Ding) at 51 km + 900 ~ 52 km + 388 (Ao’hua Tunnel), at 67 km + 046 ~ 67 km + 260(Renqing Tunnel) and 67 km + 874 ~ 68 km + 258 (Heqing Tunnel) for the tunnel lighting equipment maintenance construction work

Control Period: April 6, 2023 - April 15, 2023

Control Time: 8:00 am to 8:00 pm

Passage Time: Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. (not all lines are closed)

4. Provincial Highway 9D (9 Ding) at 148 km +200 and 61 km+300 (Heping – Hezhong Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Control Period: April 6, 2023 - April 30, 2023

Control Time: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (No traffic controls on weekends and public holidays)

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.
