Road partially open/ Road closed (120.6 km - 114.6 km) Guanyuan disaster section at 117.4 km highway marker 

 

Road opens 4 times a day passage for road users between Guanyuan (114.6 km) and Jinma Tunnel's east entrance (120.6 km) on Provincial Highway 8.

Provincial Highway 8 & 14A Traffic Control Information for January 2023

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 187.7 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from January 1, 2023 –January 31, 2023.

Specifically: 

 

1. Provincial Highway 8 at 171 km + 260 m (Cimu Bridge section) for the Slope Improvement Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 7:30 am – 17:30 pm

Control Period: January 16, 2023– January 31, 2023

Passage time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 07:30-07:40, 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, 10:30 – 10:40 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 162 km + 200 m (Huitouwan section) for the Slope Improvement Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: January 16, 2023– January 31, 2023

Passage time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 155 km + 680 m (Xuejiachang section- near Xibao) for the Slope Improvement Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 7:30 am – 17:30 pm

Control Period: January 16, 2023– January 31, 2023

Passage time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 07:30-07:40, 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, 10:30 – 10:40 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

Traffic controls for #1-3 construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

 

4. Road closed section: Traffic controls are implemented at the 117 km + 400 m Guanyuan Disaster Road Section of Provincial Highway 8. The control section is from Jinma Tunnel's east entrance at 114.6 km highway marker (about 64 kilometers away from Taroko Arch Gate) to Guanyuan at 120.6 km (about 4 kilometers away from Dayuling). The passage period will be adjusted, respectively, once a day from (1) 7:00 am - 8:00 am, (2) 10:00 am, (3) 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, and (4) 3:00 pm. There are four times passages daily in total.

Road Closed Control Period: January 16, 2023 – January 31, 2023 (24hr including public holidays and weekends)

The emergency repair team will arrange personnel to guard and control the 117.4k disaster site on Provincial Highway 8 during each passage time. The construction site traffic control will open on time, depending on the slope conditions. Please wait patiently at the control point before the passage time. Please cooperate, drive carefully and pass sequentially; the emergency repair team also reminds drivers that the disaster road section is still in the emergency repair stage. During the passage period, drivers should be aware that if the weather conditions are not good (heavy rainfall, dense fog cannot monitor the slope, etc.) the emergency repair team is permitted to close the road and prohibiting the passage of people and vehicles.

Please plan your trip accordingly.

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19 km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by the above list #1 construction sites (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14Jia) will be affected by #1-4 of the above list (for both directions).

 

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip. Provincial Highway 9 information for January 16-31, 2023

Road partially open/ 3 passage daily at 159.3 km

 

The Daqingshui Tunnel Section of Provincial Highway 9 opened at 17 pm on January 15, 2023 after the disaster has been actively repair for several days.

Considering that the upper slope cannot be effectively monitored at night, the road will be closed at night after opened for traffic from 17-19 pm on January 15, 2023. Control road section: The north control point at north entrance Renshui Tunnel of Provincial Highway 9 (at 154 km + 787 m highway marker), and the south entrance control point at Chongde (Provincial Highway 9 at 166 km + 700m highway marker).

Considering that the slope has unstable factors, follow-up on-site slope protection construction works will continue. The traffic will be open 3 times daily at 5-8 am, 11-13 pm, and 17-19 pm starting from January 16 -18, 2023. During this time period, the road will be closed at night and controlled, the road users are advised to cooperate with the control and plan your itinerary in advance. Traffic will not be controlled after 17:00 from January 18, 2023 - January 31, 2023 during Chinese Lunar New Year holidays period.
