The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Maintenance Office) list the following roadworks and traffic control for 01-31 December 2018: 

1. Provincial Highway 8 at 119.3km (Guanyuan Section)
Traffic Control Schedule: 07:30am - 17:30pm
Passage time: hourly on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g.: 8:30-8:40, 9:30-9:40, ...)

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 142.9km (Xinbaiyang Section)
Traffic Control Schedule: 07:30am - 17:30pm
Passage time: hourly on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g.: 8:30-8:40,9:30-9:40, ...)

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 144.9km (Xinbaiyang Section)
Traffic Control Schedule: 08:00am - 17:00pm
Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 159.6km (Xibao Section)
Traffic Control Schedule: 08:00am - 17:00pm
Passage time: hourly on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g.: 8:00-8:10, 9:00-9:10,...)

5. Provincial Highway 8 at 162.0km – 168.7km (Xibao and Tianxiang Sections)
Traffic Control Schedule: 24 hours
Passage will be controlled by traffic lights. The road will be open to traffic one direction at a time for both directions throughout the entire construction period.

6. Provincial Highway 8 at 169.7km (Tianxiang Section)
Traffic Control Schedule: 08:00am - 17:00pm
Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

Note: Traffic control for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays. 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by #6 of the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou via Provincial Highway 14A (14甲) will be affected by #1-6 of the above list (for both directions).

Traffic controls are in effect for the safety of road users as a result of Highway Slope Stabilization Work. Please obey the construction zone traffic control personnels’ indications and pass quickly. Please pay attention to your own safety. In the event of an earthquake or up to a week following heavy rainfall, please do not enter the highway past Tianxiang. Please plan ahead before your trip and have a safe and pleasant journey!
