A brief explanation on the Mountain and Park Access requirements of the most popular mountaineering trails.
- Requiring both the Mountain Access and Park Access permits: North Section 1 (The Nanhu Peaks or Nanhu to Zhongyangjian route), North Section 2 (Mt. Shuan to Mt. Lingming to Ganshu Peak route), Mt. Qilai North/ Main Peaks, Qilai East Ridge, Qilai South Peak, Mt. Shuan, Mt. Bilu, Mt. Bilu to Mt. Yangtou trails.
- Requiring only Mountain Access permit; The trail to Mt. Bilu, Hehuan West and North Peaks, furthermore, the Tunyuan to Qilai South Peak to Mt. Nanhua route also requires only a Mountain Access permit; however, as this trail is outside of the park premises, the application for Mountain Access permits should be submitted to the Ren'ai Police Station in Nantou County or to the National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior.
- Requiring only Park Access permit: Mt. Qingshui, Mt. Yangtou and Zhuilu Old Road.

- Mt. Qilai area: Mt. Hehuan Branch, Sub-Taroko Division, Ninth Division, The Seventh Special Police Corps, National Police Agency; Ren'ai Precinct (District) Station of Nantou County Police Bureau; Xincheng Precinct (District) Station of Hualien County Police Bureau.
