Heliu (170 km) and Buluowan (178 km) road section will close for rescue drills on the Provincial Highway 8 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on March 7, 2023 (Tuesday).

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is scheduled to conduct disaster prevention and rescue drills on the Provincial Highway 8 (Central Cross-Island Hwy.) for the approaching plum rain season. The drills will be conducted between Jiuqudong Tunnel (172.3 km) and Zhuilu Section (175 km) from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on March 7, 2023 (Tuesday). During this period, both directions of traffic between Heliu (at 170 km highway marker) and Buluowan (at 178 km highway marker) road section will close. Drivers are advised to plan their itinerary in advance. Please cooperate with the on-site personnel when passing through this section. We apologize for any inconvenience during the drills.

 

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip.
