Mt. Qilai North Peak Elevation Plaque was Damaged in Taroko National Park

  • Updated:2022-06-30
  • HitCount:89

Mt. Qilai North Peak is situated at an elevation of 3,607 meters. It is located 7.7 kilometers away from the trailhead. This route is typically hiked over a 2 to 3 day period. It is one of Taiwan's (Baiyue) hundred mountains and is an advanced and popular mountaineering route. There is a triangulation-point placard at the top of Mt. Qilai North Peak, a famous sign on the top of the mountain. However, the park received feedback from mountaineers that it was recently damaged. Taroko National Park Headquarters will send personnel to repair it as soon as possible after the materials are ready.

Malicious damage will be punished according to relevant regulations

According to the tenth point of the prohibited activities regulation in the Domain of Taroko National Park area, "Destruction of public property and facilities is prohibited. Violators will be fined NT$3,000." In addition, according to Article 27 of the National Park Law (Act), "For those who violate the provisions of this Act and are punished in accordance with Articles 24 through 26, the damaged item shall be restored to its original state. If it cannot be restored to the original state, or if the restoration is obviously difficult, the damage shall be financially compensated. The National Park Headquarters or a third party may be ordered to perform the repairs/restoration work. These associated fees shall be collected from the obligor and, if necessary, will require compensation from the perpetrator. In addition, those who violate Article 13 of the "National Park Law (Act)" and "Prohibitions in the Taroko National Park Area" in accordance with the "Notices for Admission to the Taroko National Ecological Protection and Other Controlled Areas" will not be allowed to enter the park for one year. Taroko National Park Headquarters appealed to mountaineers to abide by the relevant regulations. Public facilities should not be maliciously damaged. Mountaineers are asked to assist in supervision and management.

The construction and maintenance of mountain facilities is not easy. Mountaineers are asked to cherish and care for them.

Taroko National Park includes Mt. Hehuan Peaks, Mt. Qilai, Mt. Zhongyangjian, and Mt. Nanhu, Qingshui Cliff, Liwu River, and Sanzhan River Basin, etc. Half of the park region is located at an elevation above 2000 meters, with approximately one-sixth of that region above 3,000 meters. Due to the park's vast area and the considerable elevation difference, it is not easy to construct and maintain the related mountain facilities. Damage to the related facilities (such as the damage to the indicator signs, emergency rescue and life-saving equipment, and more) in the park will cause management and maintenance problems. Damaging mountaineering facilities is harmful to mountaineers, and it also increases the labor cost of mountain rescuers. Taroko National Park Headquarters appeals to mountaineers to jointly maintain the national park's precious ecological landscape and mountaineering facilities. If any damage to the facilities is found, please report it to Taroko National Park Headquarters as soon as possible so that the park can dispatch personnel to inspect and repair it to provide mountaineers with safety and allow for the best mountaineering experience.
