Following the restriction adjustments for the epidemic prevention policy, Hehuan Mountain area will implement holiday traffic control measures starting July 13, 2021.

The Central Epidemic Command Center announced adjustments on July 8, 2021, to the Level 3 epidemic alert. Taroko National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as the Taroko N. P. HQ) considers the needs of tourists. For the latest epidemic prevention guidelines of the Central Epidemic Command Center, some recreational areas and trails will be opened starting July 13th, 2021. Control measures will be revised according to the epidemic situation and the flow (amount) of people.

Following the easement of several epidemic prevention measures on July 13, 2021, there will be an influx of cars and people in the Hehuan Mountain area. Vehicular congestion and blockage are expected in the Hehuan Mountain area due to limited parking spaces, the condition of the roads ( narrow, winding, and steep ascent), and the large number of tourists and vehicles using the area for recreation and mountaineering activities. Following the adjustment of the Level 3 epidemic alert, and in order to cope with and maintain traffic safety and smoothness in the Hehuan Mountain area, parking lots will reduce the number of available parking spaces by 40%.  During the holiday period, the Taroko N. P. HQ will reinforce notices for tourists bound for Mt. Hehuan for recreation and parking space information starting July 13th 2021. On weekends and public holidays, when there is vehicular congestion or the parking lot is full between Kunyang and Songxue Lodge section, “regulatory control” will be implement at highway marker 24 km at the Yuanfeng parking lot on the Highway 14A (14Jia) (eastbound control, westbound uncontrolled). The current measures will allow passage to 20 vehicles every 10 minutes. It also reminds visitors that temporary parking is forbidden on both sides of the 29~34 km between Kunyang and Kenanguan section (Kunyang, Mt. Hehuan Main Peak trailhead area, Wuling, visitor center, Mt. Shimen, and Kenanguan) as well as on both sides alongside 29~34 km of the Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia). Do not stop vehicles temporarily to avoid affecting the flow of traffic and being penalized. Tourists bound for the mountains should always pay attention to the information provided by the Highway Variable Information Board (CMS), and please feel free to listen to the police radio station for traffic information in the Hehuan Mountain area to get real-time road condition information to make immediate adjustments to your itinerary.

Due to the epidemic situation remaining at a Level 3 alert, although some scenic spots in Taroko National Park have been partially opened in accordance with the Central Epidemic Command Center guidelines, tourists are still urged to comply with various epidemic prevention regulations. Taroko N. P. HQ will request the district police, forestry, and highway units to strengthen traffic guidance, and use the official website, Facebook, highway information boards, and police radio station to announce information on the traffic flow to Hehuan Mountain area. This will enable tourists to obtain information as well as divert people and vehicles, continue to jointly implement and check relevant measures for epidemic prevention.
