Provincial Highway 8, 9, 9D and 14A Road Construction Traffic Control Information

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 187.7 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from September 1, 2023 – September 30, 2023.

Specifically: 

1. Provincial Highway 8 at 179.5 km (Xipan Dam section) for the Upper Slope Stabilization Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:30 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: From September 1, 2023 – September 30, 2023

Five Passage Time Daily: (1) 10:00 am once, (2) 11:30 – 12:30, (3) 14:00 once (4) 15:30 once (5) 17:00- the second morning 8:30 am (road open at night)

Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

Road open period: 17:00 – the second morning 8:30 am

Road construction traffic controls are in effect during weekends and public holidays.

In order to speed up the emergency repair work at the disaster spot on the Xipan Dam section, construction and traffic control will still be carried out on weekends and public holidays. Please wait patiently and arrive earlier at the control point before the passage time. Please cooperate, drive carefully and pass sequentially; the emergency repair team also reminds drivers that the disaster road section is still in the emergency repair stage. In addition, if it is affected by unexpected conditions or typhoons, heavy rains, earthquakes and other weather conditions, emergency road closures (including road closure control at night), it will not be ruled out if necessary to ensure road users safety. East to west: The east entrance to Taroko gorge- the Arch Gate at 184.5 km highway marker to the traffic control point at 179.5 km- Baisha No. 2 Bridge (Xipan Dam section) is about 5 km / about 8 minutes by car.

West to east: The west from Tianxiang at 167.6 km to the traffic control point at 179.5 km (Xipan Dam section) is about 11.9 km / about 20 minutes by car.

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 157.7 km (Luoshao section) for the Lower Slope Stabilization Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Control Period: September 1, 2023 – September 30, 2023

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work

Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction. (Traffic controls for do not apply on weekends and public holidays.)

 

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 110.7 km ~114.6 km road section for the road asphalt pavement works.

The road pavement works traffic control will be implemented during the daytime construction period in conjunction with the 117.4 km Guanyuan disaster section.

 

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 117 km + 400 m Guanyuan Disaster Road Section for the emergency repair for the slope. The control section is between 114.6 km – 120.6 km. (about 64 kilometers away from Taroko Arch Gate-east entrance to Taroko gorge, east to west, about 1 hour and 50 minutes driving time)/ (about 4 kilometers away from Dayuling, west to east). The passage period will be adjusted, respectively, 5 times daily from (1) 7:00 am - 8:00 am, (2) 10:00 am – 10:10 am, (3) 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, and (4) 3:00 pm – 3:10 pm. (5) 5:00 pm – 5:10 pm.

Traffic Control Period: September 1, 2023 – September 30, 2023

Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

Road traffic control time: 24 hrs including public holidays and weekends

Road closed time: 5:10 pm - the next morning 7:00 am (night time)

 

The emergency repair team will arrange personnel to guard and control the 117.4 km disaster site on Provincial Highway 8 during each passage time. The construction site traffic control will open on time, depending on the slope conditions. Please wait patiently and arrive earlier at the control point before the passage time. Please cooperate, drive carefully and pass sequentially; the emergency repair team also reminds drivers that the disaster road section is still in the emergency repair stage. During the passage period, drivers should be aware that if the weather conditions are not good (heavy rainfall, dense fog causing an inability to monitor the slope, etc.) the emergency repair team is permitted to close the road and prohibiting the passage of people and vehicles.

Visitors who are visiting Taroko Gorge section from Taroko Arch Gate (at 184.5 km highway marker to Tianxiang (at 167.4 km highway marker) will be affected by the above #1 road repair traffic control on the Provincial Highway 8. Please pay attention to this traffic control info.

Provincial Highway 9 & 9D (9 Ding) Road Construction Traffic Control Information for September 2023

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Nan'ao Works Section) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety on Provincial Highway 9.

Construction Work on Provincial Highway 9 will be the following:

 

1. Provincial Highway 9 at 159.3 km (Daqingshui Tunnel) for the Rockfall Prevention Tunnel Construction Work (158.2 km Daqingshui ~ 161.3 km Huide Tunnel North Entrance

 

A: Day Time

 

Control Period: September 1, 2023 and September 4, 2023 ~ September 8, 2023

Control Time: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work and according to on-site traffic flow.

Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

Control point:

North Control point: at 159.2 km South Entrance of Daqingshui Tunnel

South Control point: at 160.4 km South Entrance of Jinwen Tunnel

 

B: Night Time

Control Period: September 4, 2023 ~ September 7, 2023

Control Time: 20:00 pm to the next morning 4:00 am

Passage time: Every 2 hours on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 20:00 pm – 20:10 pm, 22:00 – 22:10, etc.) No traffic control from 4:00 am ~ 9:00am the next morning.

2. Provincial Highway 9D at 64 km ~64.3 km Heren road section for The North Bound Lane Drainage Improvement Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 24 hrs

Control Period: August 15, 2023 – October 6, 2023

The road on the north bound lane is closed for the construction work. Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.
