Tianxiang is a well-known scenic spot in Taroko National Park. Intertek 7-11 is an essential shop for the convenience of shopping and eating without leaving the mountain area. However, "food exposure” is also the main reason for conflicts between humans and monkeys at or around the convenience store. The Taiwanese macaque is the only non-human primate in Taiwan. It is a natural wild animal in the national park. To protect the macaque and the public, the Taroko National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as the Taroko N. P. HQ) promotes "Plans for Sharing with Monkeys" and advocates that “food is not exposed.” For this reason, the second floor of Intertek 7-11 and the lobby of Intertek Tianxiang Service Station will open indoor dining on August 24 so that the public can have a comfortable and safe dining space. Visitors are encouraged to use it.

Enter Central Cross-Island Highway Story Hall from 7-11

The Central Cross-Island Highway Story Hall is on the upper floor of 7-11 Tianxiang Store. It used to be accessible from the inner stairs of Tianxiang Store or the outer stairs through the landing doors on the second floor. In order to promote indoor dining and prevent macaques from approaching diners, the outer entrance and exit on the original second floor are closed and can only be opened in case of emergency. Visitors are invited to enter the story hall from the inner stairs of 7-11.

People feeding macaques has resulted in snatching food

Visitors feeding the Tianxiang macaques has resulted in their habit of eating human-produced foods. People who are holding food or eating become the targets of macaques. The endless stream of people at the entrance of Tianxiang 7-11 makes the entrance of the convenience store a hot spot. Items that are easily snatched include plastic bags, popsicles, snack packaging, rice balls, fruits, and sugary drinks. Please make more use of the indoor dining space, avoid eating and drinking outdoors, and put your food in "opaque, non-plastic and sealed" bags or backpacks.

Unexposed food is a good way for cohabitation with macaques

To prevent Tianxiang macaques from snatching food, the solution is to keep it hidden. Please join us to achieve the goal of " Harmonious coexistence of monkeys and people " and abide by the new four-no principle of " No showing food, no feeding, no contact, no provocation". Put food in the bag, do not eat outdoors, do not feeding macaques, and keep a distance of more than 5 meters.
