Provincial Highway 8, 14A and 9 Road Construction Traffic Control Information

Provincial Highway 8/ Road partially Open / Road closed at 179.5km (Xipan Dam) & 117.4 km (Guanyuan section) at night

Provincial 14 A (14 Jia)/ Road partially Open / Road closed at 18.7km (Cuifeng section) at night 0:00 am – the second morning 6:00 am

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 187.7 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from August 1, 2023 – August 31, 2023.

Specifically: 

 

1. Provincial Highway 8 at 179.5 km (Xipan Dam section) for the Road Serious Landslide Repair Construction Work, due to the July 27, 2023 Typhoon Damage

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2023 – August 31, 2023

Passage time daily: 7:00 am - 8:00 am, every 2 hours on the hour for once (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 10:00 – 10:10, 12:00 – 12:10, ... etc.)

Road Closed period: 6:00 pm – the second morning 7:00 am

Road opened period: 7:00 am -8:10 am

Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

 

East to west: The east entrance to Taroko gorge- the Arch Gate at 184.5 km highway marker to the traffic control point at 179.5 km (Xipan Dam section) is about 5 km / about 10 minutes by car.

West to east: The west from Tianxiang at 167.6 km to the traffic control point at 179.5 km (Xipan Dam section) is about 11.9 km / about 20 minutes by car.

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 117 km + 400 m Guanyuan Disaster Road Section for the emergency repair for the slope. (about 67.1 kilometers away from Taroko Arch Gate-east entrance to gorge, east to west, about 2 hours driving time) (about 7.2 kilometers away from Dayuling, west to east). The passage period will be adjusted, respectively, 5 times daily from (1) 7:00 am - 8:00 am, (2) 10:00 am – 10:10 am, (3) 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, and (4) 3:00 pm – 3:10 pm. (5) 5:00 pm – 5:10 pm.

 

The emergency repair team will arrange personnel to guard and control the 117.4 km disaster site on Provincial Highway 8 during each passage time. The construction site traffic control will open on time, depending on the slope conditions. Please wait patiently and arrive earlier at the control point before the passage time. Please cooperate, drive carefully and pass sequentially; the emergency repair team also reminds drivers that the disaster road section is still in the emergency repair stage. During the passage period, drivers should be aware that if the weather conditions are not good (heavy rainfall, dense fog causing an inability to monitor the slope, etc.) the emergency repair team is permitted to close the road and prohibiting the passage of people and vehicles.

 

Road Repair Construction Work Traffic Control Period: August 1, 2023 – August 31, 2023

Passage time daily: (1) 7:00 am - 8:00 am, (2) 10:00 am – 10:10 am, (3) 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, and (4) 3:00 pm – 3:10 pm (5) 5:00 pm – 5:10 pm.

Road closed time: 5:10 pm - the next morning 7:00 am (night time)

 

Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

Road traffic control time: 24hr including public holidays and weekends

A: Control Period: July 24, 2023 ~ August 31, 2023

Control Time: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (No traffic controls during 12:00 - 13:00.)

Passage time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 15 minutes (e.g. 9:00 am – 9:15 am, 10:00 – 10:15, 11:00 – 11:15, etc.)

Traffic controls do not apply from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, 4:00 am -9:00 am, 17:00 - 20:00 and weekends and public holidays.

Open for one direction of traffic once at a time for both directions traffic. Please follow the on-site personnel instruction.

B: Control Period: July 24, 2023 ~ August 31, 2023

Control Time: 20:00 pm to the next morning 4:00 am

Passage time: Every 2 hours on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 20:00 pm – 20:10 pm, 22:00 – 22:10, etc.)
