Affected by the circulation of Typhoon Nesat and the northeast monsoon, a landslide and mud flow occurred near the Huitouwan at 162.2 km of the Provincial Highway 8 yesterday (Oct. 16, 2022), which blocked the road and made it impossible to pass. Considering the influence of the weather and the poor visibility after dark, in order to prevent road users from being trapped in the mountain area at night, an emergency closure was implemented on the Provincial Highway 8 from Guanyuan to Tianxiang (114.6 km ~167.1 km). The emergency repair was conducted to clear the 162.2 km Huitouwan section, The road was reopened at 10:00 am today (on Oct. 17, 2022) and reopened the road section from Jinma Tunnel to Tianxiang (120.6 km ~167.1 km). In addition, due to the continued heavy rains, the 117.4 km Guanyuan disaster emergency repair road section has expanded, and the roadbed has lost about 50 meters, causing the road to be blocked again. Due to the difficulty of repair and severe landslides, it is estimated that it will be completed on November 7, 2022, and the original four-time-per-day passage measures has been cancelled. The emergency repair team will actively repair it according to the subsequent rain and slope conditions, and reopen traffic as soon as possible to reduce the inconvenience of road users.
