Provincial Highway 8, 14A (14 Jia) and 9 Traffic Control Information for August 2022. Road open 3 times a day for road users between Mt. Hehuan Police Station (114.6 km) and Jinma Tunnel East Opening (120.6 km) on Provincial Highway 8.

Road partially Open /Road closed Guanyuan section between Mt. Hehuan Police Station (114.6 km) and Jinma Tunnel East Opening (120.6 km)

 

The serious landslides occurred at 117 km + 400 m (Guanyuan section) on April 26, 2022. The road reopened on June 8, 2022. Due to the serious landslides road section, the road emergency repair is just temporary. Traffic controls will be implemented from August 1, 2022 to ensure safe passage of people and vehicles. Provincial Highway 8 is closed for repair between 114.6 km and 120.6 km. The traffic control section will be opened traffic 3 times a day, once in the morning and twice in the afternoon. The 3 passage time period is (1) 7:00 am - 8:00 am, (2) 12:00 pm to 13:00 pm and (3) 15:00 pm -15:30 pm. Please plan your trip accordingly.

Provincial Highway 8 and 14A (14 Jia) Traffic Control Information for August 2022

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 187.7 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from August 1, 2022 – August 31, 2022.

Specifically:  

 

1. Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) at 37 km - 41 km+ 533 (Xiaofengkou - Dayuling section) for the Road Pavement Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2022– August 31, 2022

Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 136 km + 100 m and 137 km + 500 m (Xinbaiyang section) for the Road Damage Repair Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 18:00 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2022– August 31, 2022

Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 169 km + 600 m (Lushui section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:30 am – 17:30 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2022– August 31, 2022

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, 10:30 – 10:40 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

4. Road closed section: The serious rockslides occurred at 117 km + 400 m (Guanyuan section) on Provincial Highway 8.

The road will be closed between 114.6 km and 120.6 km [between Guanyuan (Mt. Hehuan Police Station) and Jinma Tunnel East Opening] on the Provincial Highway 8.

Note: Mt. Hehuan police station is about 4 km east of Dayuling. Jinma Tunnel East Opening is about 64 km (1 hr and 40 minutes by car) west from Taroko Arched Gate (Taroko Gorge east entrance) at 184.5 km on Provincial Highway 8.  

Traffic Control Time: 24 hr (including weekends and public holidays)

Control Period: August 1, 2022– August 31, 2022

Passage Time: 3 times a day. Once in the Morning and twice in the afternoon, 7:00 am – 8:00 am, 12:00 pm – 13:00 pm, and 15:00 pm- 15:30 pm.  

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. This road section (114.6 km – 120.6 km) will be closed for serious landslides repair.

Please plan your trip accordingly.

Option 1: (The longer route) (Take the alternative route via Mt. Hehuan to Nantou and Taichung)

The substitute Route: Xincheng -- Provincial Highway 9 (Luodong) – Provincial Highway 7A (7 Jia) - Lishan – Provincial Highway 8 - Dayuling   

Time required: about 5 hrs

Substitute Route Distances: 221.4 km

Option 2: (Take the alternative route. Bond for the west of Taiwan to Taichung or Nantou (The fastest route)

Take the Provincial Highway 9 from Xincheng to Su’ao, change the Freeway 5 from Su’ao to Taipei (then connect the Freeway 3) and then take the Freeway 3 to Taichung or Nantou.

Time required: about 4.5 hrs - 5 hrs

Note: Traffic controls for all the above #1-3 construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19 km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by the above list #3 (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14Jia) will be affected by #1-4 of the above list (for both directions). Please use the substitute route.

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip. Provincial Highway 9 Road Construction information for August 2022

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Nan'ao Works Section) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety on Provincial Highway 9.

 

The Highway 9 will be the Slop Construction Work as the following:

Provincial Highway 9 at 117 km + 360 m (Dong’ao Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 08:00 am – 17:00 pm

Traffic Control Day: Tuesday – Thursday

Control Period: August 2, 2022– August 17, 2022

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction work

Please follow the on-site personnel instruction. Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. (Traffic control for the above construction site does not apply on weekends and public holidays.)
