Provincial Highway 8 and 14A (14 Jia) Traffic Control Information for July 2022. Road open twice a day for road users between Mt. Hehuan Police Station (114.6 km) and Jinma Tunnel East Opening (120.6 km) on Provincial Highway 8.

The serious landslides occurred at 117 km + 400 m (Guanyuan section) on April 26, 2022. The road reopened on June 8, 2022. Due to the serious landslides road section, the road repair pavement is just temporary. Traffic controls will be implemented from July 8, 2022 to ensure safe passage of people and vehicles. Provincial Highway 8 is closed for repair between 114.6 km and 120.6 km. The traffic control section will be opened traffic twice a day each in the morning and in the afternoon. The two passage time period is 7:00 am to 8:00 am and 12:00 pm to 13:00 pm. Please plan your trip accordingly.

Provincial Highway 8 and 14A (14 Jia) Traffic Control Information for July 2022

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 187.7 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from July 1, 2022 – July 31, 2022.

Specifically:  

 

1. Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) at 32 km+900 (Songxue Lodge section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: July 1, 2022– July 31, 2022

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 130 km + 400 (Ci’en section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: July 1, 2022– July 31, 2022

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 136 km + 100 m (Xinbaiyang section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: July 13, 2022– July 31, 2022

Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 137 km + 500 m (Xinbaiyang section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: July 1, 2022– July 31, 2022

Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

5. Provincial Highway 8 at 169 km + 600 m (Lushui section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:30 am – 17:30 pm

Control Period: July 1, 2022– July 31, 2022

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, 10:30 – 10:40 etc.)

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

6. Road closed section: The serious rockslides occurred at 117 km + 400 m (Guanyuan section) on Provincial Highway 8.

The road will be closed between 114.6 km and 120.6 km [between Guanyuan (Mt. Hehuan Police Station) and Jinma Tunnel East Opening] on the Provincial Highway 8.

Note: Mt. Hehuan police station is about 4 km east of Dayuling. Jinma Tunnel East Opening is about 64 km (1 hr and 40 minutes by car) west from Taroko Arched Gate (Taroko Gorge east entrance) at 184.5 km on Provincial Highway 8.

Passage Time: Twice a day. Once each in the Morning and in the afternoon, every time for an hour 7:00 am – 8:00 am and 12:00 pm – 13:00 pm

Control Period: August 1, 2022– August 31, 2022
Passage Time: 3 times a day. Once each in the Morning and twice in the afternoon, 7:00 am – 8:00 am, 12:00 pm – 13:00 pm, and 15:00 pm- 15:30 pm  
Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. This road section (114.6 km – 120.6 km) will be closed for serious landslides repair.

The substitute Route: Xincheng -- Provincial Highway 9 (Luodong) – Provincial Highway 7A (7 Jia) - Lishan – Provincial Highway 8 - Dayuling   

Time required: about 5 hrs

Substitute Route Distances: 221.4 km

 

Note: Traffic controls for all the above #1-5 construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19 km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by the above list #5 (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14Jia) will be affected by #1-6 of the above list (for both directions). Please use the substitute route.

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip.
