Rockfall Prevention Construction to be Implemented on Taroko National Park’s Lushui Trail on Highway 8

Temporary passage control on highway from February 1 to April 30, 2021

To improve the safety of tourists, the Taroko National Park Headquarters will implement a project installation for the rockfall prevention nets on the cliff section of the Lushui Trail from February 1 to April 30, 2021. During this time, the Provincial Highway 8 will be closed at km 169.6 - km 169.8 with about brief periods normally no longer than 20 minutes of controlled passage (affecting either pedestrians or traffic on this highway).

Slope scrubbing will be carried out between 08:00 am and 17:00 pm from February 1 (Mon) to February 8 (Mon), 2021. Crowd control will be implemented during these three days, and visitors will still be able to enter the trail. This road will be temporarily closed for rockfall prevention works. A project installation for the landslide/rockfall prevention nets will be carried out between 08:00 am and 17:00 pm from February 22 (Mon) to April 30 (Fri), 2021. The construction works will be carried out from Mondays to Saturdays, except Sundays. In order to reduce the inconvenience of road users, the passage time will be matched with the traffic passage time of the landslides/rockfall repair project at the east Zhuilu Tunnel at 174.9 km on the Provincial Highway 8, with early passage time and postponement of control.

Taroko Roadworks Section announced that the Rockslides/landslides repair construction work traffic controls on Provincial Highway 8 at 174.9 km (East Zhuilu Tunnel) will be in effect from January 25, 2021 to February 8, 2021 from 8:00 am to 17:00 pm. No traffic control on Sundays (January 31 and February 7, 2021). The passage time will be every 2 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 - 08:10 am, 10:00 - 10:10 am, 12:00 - 12:10 pm, 13:00 - 13:10 pm, 15:00 - 15:10 pm, 17:00 pm.

The Taroko National Park Headquarters asks that tourists pay attention to their own safety and to cooperate with control measures. If the construction period needs to be extended or moved due to weather reasons, the Park Headquarters will post a separate announcement via the official website (taroko.gov.tw).
