Road Open/Road Construction Traffic Control

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 184.5 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from November 1, 2020– November 30, 2020.

Specifically:

 

1. Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) at 34 km + 180 (Kenanguan Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: November 1, 2020– November 30, 2020

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 150 km +400 (Hualuxi Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: November 1, 2020– November 30, 2020

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

 

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 168 km + 280 m (old Hwy. marker 169 km + 650m) (Tianxiang Section) for the New Rockfall Prevention Tunnel Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 24 hours

Control Period: November 1, 2020– November 30, 2020

Passage Time: Accessibility follows the traffic lights. Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. (Sun – Mon, 24 hrs including public holidays).

 

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 183 km + 300m (Xiagu Bridge Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period : November 1, 2020– November 30, 2020

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

 

Note: Traffic control for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays except for the above #3.

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by #3-4 of the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14Jia) will be affected by #1-4 of the above list (for both directions).

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip. The Highway 9D (9 Din)- old road section will be the Slope Stabilization Construction Work as the following:

 

Due to the recent continuous rain & rockfall damages, the Provincial Highway 9D (9Din, Old road section) at 61.6 km, 66.2 km - 66.8km (Daqingshui Section) three sites for the Slope Stabilization Construction Works

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: October 26, 2020– November 20, 2020

Passage Time: once every 30 minutes, open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

 

Note: Traffic control for the above construction site do not apply on weekends and public holidays.
