Taroko Scenic Spot and Trail Temporarily Closed for Rockfall Prevention Projects and Facilities Repair Works
To strengthen tourist safety, the Taroko National Park Headquarters will be conducting rockfall prevention projects and facility repair works for scenic spots and trails. Tourists are advised to take notice of these closures and obey the control measures of the closed trail. The construction work is as follows:
A: Changchun (Eternal) Shrine old road section closed: Land/rockslide prevention tunnel installation will be carried out between Old Changchun Bridge- the old Highway 8 section, and New Changchun Bridge from today to November 30, 2020. Visitors will still be able to enter Changchun (Eternal Spring) Shrine observation platform. Please return via the same route back to Provincial Highway 8. Due to the limit road space of the west of Changchun Tunnel on the Provincial Highway 8, turning right (bound for Taroko and Hualien) are not permitted for the 20-sitter and 40- sitter buses while departing the Changchun (Eternal Spring) Shrine area.
B: Baiyang parking lot: Repairs on the Baiyang parking lot will take place until November 20, 2020. During the parking lot closure period, visitors are advised to park their cars at Tianxiang parking lot.
C: Shakadang Trail: Slope scrubbing will be carried out at 274 m from October 26 (Mon) to October 28 (Wen), 2020. Crowd control will be implemented during these three days, and visitors will still be able to enter the trail.
D: Swallow Grotto (Yanzikou) Trail: Slope scrubbing will be carried out from October 29 (Thu) to October 30 (Fri), 2020. This trail will be temporarily closed for rockfall prevention works.
The Taroko National Park Headquarters has stated that the above slope scrubbing projects and facility repair works for scenic spot and trail are necessary to mitigate landslides/rockfalls, and will ultimately strengthen tourist safety. The Park HQ strives to minimize the impact of construction work on tourists’ recreational activities and traffic. Please cooperate with the construction personnels’ instructions. In the event of inclement weather conditions, the Park HQ may extend or modify the above construction dates; if so, the Park HQ will announce any changes via the official website.
