Road Open/Road Construction Traffic Control

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 112 km – 187 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from August 1, 2020– August 31, 2020.

Specifically:

 

1. Provincial Highway 8 at 125 km + 400m (Bilu Secret Tree) & 137 km ~ 140 km Ci’en to Xinbaiyang Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period : August 1, 2020– August 31, 2020

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 131 km (Ci’en Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 7:30 am – 17:30 pm

Control Period : August 1, 2020– August 31, 2020

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 07:30 – 07:40, 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, etc.)

 

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 148.3 km (Hualuxi Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period : August 1, 2020– August 31, 2020

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)

 

Note: Traffic control for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

 

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 169 km + 650 m (Tianxiang Section) for the New Rockfall Prevention Tunnel Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 24 hours

Control Period: August 1, 2020– August 31, 2020

Passage Time: Passage Time: Accessibility follows the traffic lights. Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. (Sun – Mon, including public holidays). 

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by #4 of the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14 Jia) will be affected by #1-4 of the above list (for both directions).

 

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip. Provincial Highway 9  information for August 2020

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Nan'ao Works Section) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety on Provincial Highway 9. 

Road Closed for Fire Warning Facilities Testing Works, Tunnels will be closed as the following:
1.    154.845 km ~ 158.195km (Renshui Tunnel) 
Road closed Dates: August 3,  2020  
Road Closed Time: 20:00 – 24:00 
2.    148.845 km ~ 154.148km (Zhungren Tunnel) 
Road closed Dates: August 4, 2020  
Road Closed Time: 20:00 – 24:00 

For the above two Tunnels night time road closed period, road users are advised to use Su-hua Highway 9D (9 Din)- old road section. Sorry for the inconvenience.
