Provincial Highway 8 traffic control information for February 2020.

Road Open/Road Construction Traffic Control

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 112 km – 187 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from 01 February – 29 February 2020.

Specifically:

1. Provincial Highway 8 at 125km + 400m (Bilu Tunnel Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period : 1 February 2020– 29 February 2020

Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 135.4km (Ci’en Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period : 1 February 2020– 29 February 2020

Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 148.3km (Hualuxi Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period : 1 February 2020– 29 February 2020

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)

 

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 167.3 km (Wenshan Section) for the slope stabilization work

Traffic Control Time: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm

Control Period: 1 February 2020– 29 February 2020

Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

5. Provincial Highway 8 at 169.65 km (Tianxiang Section) for the slope stabilization work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Control Period: 1 February 2020– 29 February 2020

Passage time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)

 

6. Provincial Highway 8 at 182.7 km (Ning’an Bridge) for the slope stabilization work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Control Period: 1 February 2020– 29 February 2020

Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

Note: Traffic control for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by #5-6 of the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14 Jia) will be affected by #1-6 of the above list (for both directions).

 

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip.
