Provincial Highway 8 traffic control information for January 2020.
Road Open/Road Construction Traffic Control
The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 112 km – 187 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from 01 January – 31 January 2020.
There will be no traffic control for weekends and public holidays and also on 11 January 2020- the Presidential Election Day and including from 15:00 on 22 January, 2020 to 30 January 2020 (during the Chinese New Year Holiday)
Specifically:
1. Provincial Highway 8 at 125km + 400m (Bilu Tunnel Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period : 1 January 2020– 31 January 2020
Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.
2. Provincial Highway 8 at 127.9 km (Bilu Secred Tree Section) for the slope stabilization work
Traffic Control Time: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm
Control Period: 1 January 2020– 31 January 2020
Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 07:30 – 07:40, 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, 10:30 – 10:40, etc.)
3. Provincial Highway 8 at 135.4km (Ci’en Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period : 1 January 2020– 31 January 2020
Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)
4. Provincial Highway 8 at 140km - 144km (Xingbaiyang Section) for the Road Sign Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period : 2 January 2020– 3 January 2020
Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.
5. Provincial Highway 8 at 148.3km (Hualuxi Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period : 1 January 2020– 31 January 2020
Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)
6. Provincial Highway 8 at 160.1km (Xibao Section) for the slope stabilization work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Control Period: 1 January 2020– 31 January 2020

7. Provincial Highway 8 at 160.8km (Xibao Section) for the slope stabilization work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Control Period: 1 January 2020– 31 January 2020

8. Provincial Highway 8 at 167.3 km (Wenshan Section) for the slope stabilization work
Traffic Control Time: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
Control Period: 1 January 2020– 31 January 2020

9. Provincial Highway 8 at 169.2 km (Tianxiang Section) for the slope stabilization work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Control Period: 1 January 2020– 31 January 2020
Passage time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)
10. Provincial Highway 8 at 182.7 km (Ning’an Bridge) for the slope stabilization work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Control Period: 1 January 2020– 31 January 2020
Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.
Note: Traffic control for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.
Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by #9-10 of the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14 Jia) will be affected by #1-10 of the above list (for both directions).
The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip.
