Road Open/Road Construction Traffic Control

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 124.51 km – 182.7 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Jinma-Bilu Section – Ning’an Bridge) from 01 December – 30 December 2019. Specifically:

 

1. Provincial Highway 8 at 124km + 510m (Jinma-Bilu Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period : 1 December 2019– 7 December 2019

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 127.9 km (Bilu Secred Tree Section) for the slope stabilization work

Traffic Control Time: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm

Control Period: 1 December 2019– 31 December 2019

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 07:30 – 07:40, 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, 10:30 – 10:40, etc.)

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 131 km (Cihang Bridge Section) for the slope stabilization work

Traffic Control Time: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm

Control Period: 1 December 2019– 31 December 2019

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 07:30 – 07:40, 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, 10:30 – 10:40, etc.)

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 135.4km (Ci’en Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period : 1 December 2019– 31 December 2019

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)


5. Provincial Highway 8 at 160.1km (Xibao Section) for the slope stabilization work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Control Period: 1 December 2019– 31 December 2019

Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

6. Provincial Highway 8 at 160.8km (Xibao Section) for the slope stabilization work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Control Period: 1 December 2019– 31 December 2019

Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

7. Provincial Highway 8 at 167.3 km (Wenshan Section) for the slope stabilization work

Traffic Control Time: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm

Control Period: 1 December 2019– 31 December 2019

Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

8. Provincial Highway 8 at 171.1 km (Cimu Bridge)

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Control Period: 1 December 2019– 9 December 2019

Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

9. Provincial Highway 8 at 182.7 km (Ning’an Bridge)

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Control Period: 1 December 2019– 16 December 2019

Passage time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

Note: Traffic control for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by #8-9 of the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14 Jia) will be affected by #1-9 of the above list (for both directions).

 

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip.
