Provincial Highway 8 traffic control information for September 2019./Road Closed at night.
The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 125.4 km – 171.9 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Bilu Section – Cimu Bridge) from 01 September – 30 September 2019. Specifically:
1. Provincial Highway 8 at 124.280 km (Jinma-Bilu Section) for the road damages repair work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period : 9 September 2019– 30 September 2019
Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)
2. Provincial Highway 8 at 148.5 km (Hualu River Section) for the slope stabilization work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Control Period: 1 September 2019– 30 September 2019
Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)
3. Provincial Highway 8 at 162.1 km (Xibao Section)
Traffic Control Time: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Control Period: 1 September 2019– 30 September 2019
Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, 10:30 – 10:40, etc.)
4. Provincial Highway 8 at 171.9 km (Cimu Bridge)
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Control Period: 1 September 2019– 30 September 2019
Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)
Note: Traffic control for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.
5. Due to a landslide at 131 km (near Ci'en) which caused a roadblock on September 15 2019, there will be road work between 116 km – 133 km on Provincial Highway 8 on September 16 -17 2019. The road will be reopened at 17:00 -18:00 on September 17, 2019. Due to poor visibility at night, the road will be closed after 18:00 and reopen at 8:00 am the following morning.
To maintain the upper slope stableness, the traffic control will be in effect at 131km.
Traffic Control Period: September 23 – September 30 2019
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 18:00 pm
Passage: Every 2 hours on the hour for ten minutes. (e.g.: 07:30-07:40, 09:30-09:40, 11:30-11:40...ect.)
Closed at night: 18:00 until 08:00 am the following morning
Closed between 116km (Kuanyuan section) and 153km (Luoshao section) Travellers are advised to plan your journey ahead to avoid passing this section of the highway during the night.
Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by #4 of the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14 Jia) will be affected by #1-5 of the above list (for both directions).
The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip.
