To improve Park safety, Taroko National Park Headquarters has scheduled slope scrubbing (land/rockslide prevention) from 01 to 25 June 2019 on Baiyang, Yanzikou (Swallow Grotto), Shakadang, and Changchun Bridge to old Highway 8 section. Therefore, these trails will either be temporarily closed or crowd control measures will be implemented. Please take note and abide by these control measures.
Details of trail closure due to slope scrubbing are as follows:
- Baiyang Trail: Slope scrubbing will be carried out between the 1.460 km and 1.600 km section from 01 (Sat) – 05 (Wed) June. The second half of the trail will be temporarily closed during this period. The first half of the trail (from the entrance to the first viewing platform- 1 km) will remain open during this period.
- Yanzikou (Swallow Grotto) Trail: Slope scrubbing will be carried out between the 350 m to 380 m section from 10 (Mon) to 14 (Fri) June. The entire trail will be temporarily closed during this period.
- Changchun (Eternal Sping) Shrine: Slope scrubbing will be carried out between Changchun Bridge and Central Cross-Island old Highway 8 section from 17 (Mon) to 21 (Fri) June. Crowd control will be implemented daily from 07:00 – 10:00 and from 12:00 – 15:00. The west trailhead from Three Holy Buddha to the Eternal Spring Shrine still open to visitors. The east trailhead section(Changguan Temple - Bell Tower) is closed. Details of the crowd control are listed in a separate announcement.
- Shakadang Trail: Slope scrubbing will be carried out at 350 m from 24 (Mon) to 25 (Tue) June. Crowd control will be implemented during these two days, and visitors will still be able to enter the trail.
Taroko National Park Headquarters maintains that the above slope scrubbing projects are necessary to mitigate landslides and rockfalls, and will ultimately strengthen tourist safety. At the same time, these projects will be implemented in a way that will minimize effects on tourism and traffic. We ask that tourists kindly cooperate with the listed measures and to follow the instructions of on-site construction personnel. In the case of inclement weather, the above construction periods may be altered or postponed; if so, the Park Headquarters will announce any changes on this website.
