Provincial Highway 8 Construction Work Traffic Control for May 2019

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Maintenance Office) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork at the 37 km marker on Provincial Highway 14A (Mt. Hehuan Service Station) and between 119.3 km – 169.7 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Bilu Tunnel – Tianxiang) from 01 May – 31 May 2019. Specifically:

1. Provincial Highway 8 at 119.3 km (Bilu Tunnel Section)

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 120.13 km (Guanyuan Section)

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10, etc.)

 

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 148.5 km (Hualu River Section)

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Passage Time: Every 2 hours on the hour (e.g. 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, etc.)

 

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 156 km (Xibao Section) 

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

5. Provincial Highway 8 at 169.7 km (Tianxiang Section)

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction conditions.

 

6. Provincial Highway 14A at 37 km (Mt. Hehuan Service Station)

Traffic Control Time: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm

Passage Time: Every half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 08:30 – 08:40, 09:00 – 09:10, etc.)

 

For the above # 1- #6 construction work site, there will be NO construction traffic control during weekends and public holidays.

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by the above list (for both directions) #5. Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou via Provincial Highway 14A (14 Jia) will be affected by #1-6 of the above list (for both directions).

 

The Directorate General of Highways reminds drivers to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip. A follow-up earthquake has hit Xiulin Township, Hualien County at 9:54 am on 19 April 2019, with the maximum intensity reaching 4 on the Richter Scale. The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Maintenance Office) has immediately dispatched personnel to inspect road conditions. Any new information will be released as soon as possible. The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a major earthquake, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads.
