Due to the recent earthquake on 18 April 2019, Provincial Highway 8 (the Central Cross-Island Highway) is currently restricted to a single lane (one-way directed by traffic control). In anticipation of potential aftershocks, landslides, and rockfall, the Highway Bureau has closed Provincial Highway 8: from 6:00 pm on the 18th April onwards, vehicles will only be able to exit the Highway; from 7:00 pm on the 18th April onwards, the entire Highway will be closed. Provincial Highway 8 is expected to fully reopen at 7:00 am on the 19th April 2019. Please call the Taroko Roadworks Section of the Highway Bureau (03-8610775) for latest information.
