Chinese flute (Dizi & Xiao) Concert at the Buluowan Terrace on April 27th, 2019

 

The ecological system of Taroko is thriving with the vibrant green of fresh new buds that engulf the gorge in the onset of spring.  Taroko National Park Headquarters will hold the “Gorge Celestial Sounds, Chinese Flute Concert” this spring. You are cordially invited to attend this concert to experience the harmonious unison of the Chinese Flute and the natural environment.

 

The Chinese Flute Concert will be on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 10:30am to 12:00pm on the Buluowan Terrace. Three international masters of the Chinese Flute, including Zheng Zhenghua, Tan Baoshuo, and Chen Zhongshen, have been invited to perform on the same stage.  Taroko National Park Headquarters stated that the Buluowan Terrace is surrounded by mountains, beautiful mountain views and the sounds of nature. This makes it a perfect venue at which to hold the concert which will feature an array of naturally crafted fluted. The combination of music and natural scenery will be sure to bring about an extraordinary audio and visual experience.

 

Taroko National Park Headquarters said that the musicians who were invited to perform are all internationally renowned. Zheng Zhenghua is a Chinese-born Canadian musician who is proficient at the Chinese zither (guqin) and different kinds of Chinese flutes. He performed at the "Vancouver Folk Festival" in 1984 with more than 200 musicians from all over the world. He also had a solo performance at the "Concert with World Famous Musicians" where he played the Chinese flute. A Canadian museum even purchased a Chinese zither he constructed out of high-quality Canadian timber for their permanent collection. Zheng Zhenghua and Tan Hui performed the acclaimed Zhenghua Chinese Flute in Taiwan Concert which was held at the national theatre & concert hall during the Taipei Grass-Mountain folk Orchestra in 2017.

 

Tan Baoshuo is a famous vertical bamboo flute and horizontal flute player and flute maker. He is also a senior flute musician for the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. His playing technique combines traditional and modern methods to form his own unique style. In 1987, he began research to modify the length and sizing of the flutes and produced a new series. In 1993, history was made when he finished construction of longest flute ever recorded.

 

Chen Zhongshen is a well-known flute player in Taiwan. His "Dipian" album won the Golden Tripod Awards for Best Performance in 1985. The "Flute Concerto," which was premiered by famous Taiwanese composer Ma Shui-long, was selected as a 20th-century Chinese classics and accompanied by the Japanese Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra and the Taipei City Orchestra. His CDs have been distributed worldwide. For more than 20 years he was also the conductor of the Taipei City Orchestra. He has also performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra of New York, the Mozart Orchestra of London, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra of Canada, and many other well-known domestic and international symphonies. He has also been a featured performer many times in Taroko National Park.
