Ci'en is located at an altitude of 1,995m, at the upper portion of Luwong River (also known as Ci'en River). Due to its geographic and climate conditions, this area has formed a humid, moist, and cool fog belt that supports a “cloud forest”.
Mixed forests to the west of Ci'en are dominated by coniferous species such as Taiwan spruce, Taiwan hemlock, and Taiwan red pine, begin to appear. The hardwood species growing here are deciduous, adding colors to the mountain scenery during the autumn and winter.
[Mt. Yangtou]
Mt. Yangtou is one of the “100 Peaks of Taiwan” (Baiyue) with an elevation of 3,035m. The trailhead is near Ci'en Hostel. According to the general records of Hualien County, “the summit of Mt. Yangtou resembles the head of a ram.” From Bilü, the outline of the mountain can be seen.
