Remark1. Visitor can hike from Taroko National Park Headquarters Visitor Center (Taroko Terrace) to Shakadang tunnel walking on the left outside of tunnel. Taking Xiaozhuilu Trail from Taroko Terrace, the entrance to Xiaozhuilu Trail can be directly reached and then Shakadang Trail walked on. The east section of Xiaozhuilu Trail walks along the steep (with stairways) terrain for about 450 meter, east to west one-way traffic only, the terrain is rather steep. The elderly and children with poor physical fitness should avoid entering. After about 450 meters, the eastern ventilation opening of the Shakadang tunnel will be reached; the west section (450-1050 m) trail is connected. About hiking 600 meters of Xiaozhuilu trail, the trail will connect to the Shakadang trail beneath the Shakadang bridge.
2. The trail is about 1.5 km one way from Shakadang bridge (trailhead) to 5D Cabin (phonetic sound is Wujianwu) and about 3 km/an hour hike for a round trip. This an hour hike does not include the hike from the Park headquarters through the Xiaozhuilu trail. If you are setting out from Taroko National Park headquarters via Xiaozhuilu trail (about 1.3 km one way), connecting the trailhead of Shakadang trail after completing the Xiaozhuilu trail. One can continue the hike for Shakadang trail.
3. The Shakadang trail is 4.1 km one way. A round trip is about 8.2 km to 3D Cabin (phonetic sound Sanjianwu)/ 3-4 hour hike for a round trip. If your time is limited, one can hike to 1.5 km 5D Cablin (phonetic sound Wujianwu)/ 3km for a round trip/ about 1 hour or an hour and 15 minutes walking time for a round trip.
4. No toilets on this trail. Please use the restroom prior to entering. (restrooms are available at car park).
5.This trail runs along the cliff. Be sure to pay attention to the safety of your children. Please stay on the trail.

Note: The Shakadang Trail extends beyond the Xiaozhuilu Trail below the Shakadang Bridge. 

Shakadang Trail is also known as "Mysterious Valley Trail" and was renamed to "Shakadang Trail" in 2001. This trail is built along the river cliff so travelers can easily observe both the rock folds and plant ecosystem beside in the river valley. After 4.1 km you will arrive at 3D Cabin –phonetic sound Sanjianwu, which is the favorite of visitors. After the first curve there is a deep pool with clear water that has enchanted many visitors. In May, it is the season when Tung tree flowers bloom, making the trail a pleasant flower hallway with flowers filling the air like snow flakes.

Traffic Information
Bus1. From Hualien Station, take buses Tianxiang-1133, or Lishan-1141, or TaiwanTrip Bus 310 bound for Tianxiang, and alight at Shakadang trail.
2. From Xincheng Station, take Taroko Bus 302 or take buses 310, 1133, or 1141 bound for Tianxiang, and Shakadang trail.
3. From Tianxiang bond for Xincheng or Hualien railway station, buses will not stop at Shakadang trail. Visitors are advised to walk to Taroko National Park Headquarters visitor center for about 1 km/20 minutes by foot (through the Shakadang Tunnel) to take a bus to Xincheng or Hualien train station.

Driving1. From Taroko National Park Headquarters follow the Shakadang tunnel to Shakadang Bridge on Central Cross-Island Highway (Highway 8) westward about 1 km to Shakadang trailhead.
ParkingMotorcycle and car parking is available on the west end of the Shakadang Bridge. Bus parking is available on the left side in the Xila'an Tunnel (connecting the west side of the Shakadang Bridge).
