本研究主要是針對近二十年來太魯閣國家公園內，與原住民相關事物的文化盤點；並透過耆老口述歷史的記錄與整理，突顯國家公園內豐富的歷史人文風貌，見證人與自然可以達到的和諧關係。一方面作為太魯閣國家公園設立二十周年的回顧，另一方面也可以作為未來「公園」與「原住民」新伙伴關係的起點。
我們在第一章說明了本計劃的目標與方法，並先進行一九八六年之後與太魯閣國家公園有關的文獻清點。除評述若干重要研究案的成果與論點外，也對二十年來研究議題的發展，對照太魯閣國家公園、大社會演變趨勢與原住民自主意識的提升，指出不同階段的研究旨趣。附錄部份，我們還將文獻依性質、項目分類歸目，方便檢索。
第二章我們重新踏查了太魯閣族群的傳統領域與部落遷徙。本章除消化前人的研究成果外，大量運用耆老口述和新近傳統領域調查的發現，配合衛星定位及電腦圖繪的技術，更清楚地呈現太魯閣族人遷徙、分化的時空交錯影像。同時，我們也初步完成了太魯閣族群的系譜調查。
第三章我們以口述資料為主，分別展示、分析太魯閣族人之起源神話、遷徙傳說、祖靈傳說、巨石傳說、紋面傳說、巨人傳說、射日神話以及動植物傳說等，並進一步探討其感性寓意及其獨特之神話思維。
第四章我們先介紹了太魯閣族的歲時祭儀和祖靈信仰，理解太魯閣人傳統社會中倫理規範的模式；接著討論當代太魯閣人信仰生活的變遷，側重她與基督宗教的接合。最後，則透過近十年來原住民文化祭儀的復振，觀察其與日常生活、文化觀光與部落營造間的互動、發展。
第五章我們論述了太魯閣族民族動、植物所隱含的生態智慧，也展望其可能的加值潛力。第六章我們也調查、整理了目前太魯閣國家公園周邊部落的社會組織、民間社團與文化產業，作為未來互動、互利的基礎。結論（第七章）中，我們除了綜合研究的成果，也提出若干具體後續研究的建議。謹供參考。
附錄部份，大致按照原企劃的要求呈現，皆相當具體、實用！
Abstract

The main proposal of this research is based on the Taroko National Park culture development within recent 20 years such as the native resident culture collection, and orally historical the recording and reorganization. Therefore, observers with the harmonious relations naturally may achieve and enrich the historical humanities style of the Taroko National Park. On the one hand, it sets up the 20th anniversary to review the Taroko National Park; on the other hand, it is also a new partnership beginning between “Park” and “native resident” in the coming future.
We have explained the plan goal and the method, which is to collect some related historial literature after the year of 1986 about Taroko National Park ,in the first chapter. Besides narrating comments which certain important research documents with the achievement and the argument, also we have discussed in the subject of the development for 20 years. By comparing Taroka National Park with the social evolution tendency and the native resident realization awakeness independently, we have pointed out the research interests in different stage. In the appendix, we have also cataglized the documentations by its classification, characters, and facilitates for convenient searching.
We have reinvestigated the traditional domain and the tribe moving action of the Taroko National Park in the second Cahpter. In this chapter, by combining with the previous research results research results, utilizating a large amoun of oral historial infomratio and the traditional domain investigation discovery, so the shifting action and relocated area of Taroko native resident can be showed as image clearly with the coordination satellite positioning and the computer chart drew. At the same time, we have also completed to initialize the group difference investigation about Taroko native resident.
In the third chapter, the contents is mainly based on oral historial information, and separately demonstrates and analyize Taroko ancesters with myth origins in the megalith, the grain stone, the sun shooting, and so on. In addition, we have mentioned further discusses about its perceptual implication and the unique myth thought.
In the chapter four, We first introduced sacrificial offering and the ancestor belief of Taroko natives to understand the traditional society ethics standard pattern, and discusse contemporary life vicissitude and alone with the Christ religion joint. Finally, we penetrate the native residents’ culture revolution in the sacrificial offering, inspire, daily life, the structure of their tribes build and interactions for the near ten year.
We have elaborated and discussed the Taroko natives’ knowledge in animal and natural plants to its possible potential value in the chapter five. In the chapter six, we have investigated and reorganized the present peripheral tribe's social organization of Taroko natives additionally. The folk mass organization and the cultural industry interacts the mutually beneficial foundation as the future. As conclusion (in chapter seven), we not only have excepted synthetic study achievement, but also have put forward research proposals with certain specifically following.
