Eastern Section of Provincial Highway 8 (Central Cross-Island Highway)
(Dayuling–Taroko)

Provincial Highway 8 (Central Cross-Island Highway) Traffic Control at 168.8 km (Unnamed Tunnel near Xianglü Tunnel)
To ensure the safety of road users, the Taroko Maintenance Section of the Eastern Region Branch, Directorate General of Highways, is carrying out shotcrete works inside the unnamed tunnel and slope debris removal above the shelter tunnel at Provincial Highway 8, 168.8 km (near Xianglü Tunnel).
Traffic control will be implemented from June 9 to June 30, daily from 08:00 to 17:00, in coordination with the five scheduled release periods between Tianxiang and the Taroko Entrance:
•    06:30–08:00 
•    10:00–10:05 
•    12:00–13:00 
•    15:00–15:05 
•    17:00–18:00 
Traffic control will also be in effect on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays).
Motorists are requested to follow the directions of on-site traffic control personnel when passing through the construction area. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.

Following the April 3, 2024 (0403) Earthquake, the Taroko Maintenance Section of the Eastern Region Branch, Directorate General of Highways, has continued emergency repairs and reconstruction works while considering the transportation needs of local residents, businesses, and road users. After consultation with local communities, industry representatives, government agencies, and geotechnical engineering experts on May 26, 2026, the following traffic control measures for June 2026 have been established.
I. Guanyuan–Tianxiang (114.6 km–167.3 km)
1. Open Hours
Daily 06:30–16:30, two-way traffic permitted.
(Control points: Guanyuan Police Station at 114.6 km and west entrance of Tianxiang at 167.1 km.)
2. Clearance Period
Daily 16:30–18:00.
No entry permitted. Vehicles within the controlled section may exit only.
3. Night Closure
Daily 18:00–06:30 the following day.
4. Construction Control Sections
(1) 117.4 km (Guanyuan Section)
Traffic released 5 times daily:
06:30–08:00, 10:00, 12:00–13:00, 15:00, and 16:30–18:00.
(2) 142.7 km and 143.4 km (Xinbaiyang Section)
Subject to rolling traffic control.

II. Tianxiang–Taroko Entrance (167.7 km–184.5 km)
1. Open Hours
Traffic released 5 times daily:
06:30–08:00, 10:00–10:05, 12:00–13:00, 15:00–15:05, and 17:00–18:00.
(Control points: west end at the west side of Lushui Hydrological Bridge (169.5 km) and east end at the east portal of Shakadang Tunnel.)
2. Clearance Period
Daily 18:00–18:30.
No entry permitted. Vehicles within the controlled section may exit only.
3. Night Closure
Daily 18:30–06:30 the following day.
4. Construction Control Sections
The following six work zones will follow the five daily release periods or implement rolling traffic control depending on construction conditions:
• 172.2 km (west portal of Jiuqudong Tunnel)
• 173.5 km (east portal of Jiuqudong Tunnel)
• 174.9 km (east portal of Zhuilu Tunnel)
• 175.5 km (west portal of Jinheng Tunnel)
• 179 km (Xipan Section)
• 180.5 km (west end of Ning'an Bridge)
Vehicles already waiting at either end of a work zone before a release period begins will be allowed to pass before construction control resumes.
5. Traffic Diversion
The Taroko Entrance–Changchun Tunnel section remains under one-way diversion measures:
Westbound (Taroko → Tianxiang):
Shakadang Tunnel → Xila'an Tunnel → Changchun Tunnel → Tianxiang
Eastbound (Tianxiang → Taroko):
Provincial Highway 8 → Changchun Tunnel → Taroko Entrance

III. Other Temporary or Mobile Work Zones
For temporary construction works, such as asphalt pavement milling and resurfacing, traffic control measures will be coordinated with nearby work zones and existing release schedules. Short-term rolling traffic control may be implemented or announced separately.

IV. Dragon Boat Festival Holiday Adjustment
(June 19–21, 2026)
1. Guanyuan–Tianxiang (114.6 km–167.1 km)
• Open: 06:30–16:30 (two-way traffic)
• Clearance: 16:30–18:00
• Night closure: 18:00–06:30
2. Tianxiang–Taroko (167.1 km–184.5 km)
• Open: 06:30–18:00 (two-way traffic)
• Clearance: 18:00–18:30
• Night closure: 18:30–06:30
3. Resumption of Regular Control
Beginning June 22 (Monday), the regular five daily release periods will resume.

Important Reminder
For travelers driving the entire Dayuling–Taroko route (approximately 74 km):
• Eastbound (Dayuling → Taroko): Arrive at Tianxiang no later than 17:00 to catch the final release period (17:00–18:00).
• Westbound (Taroko → Dayuling): Pass the Shakadang Tunnel checkpoint no later than 15:00 to ensure arrival at Guanyuan before the 18:00 night closure.
As disaster-recovery works on slopes, roadbeds, and pavements continue, release periods may be delayed or canceled due to weather or emergency conditions. Road users are advised to plan ahead, monitor weather forecasts and traffic information, and check the latest road conditions through the Directorate General of Highways' real-time road information system or the Happy Highway App.

Provincial Highway 14A (Wushe Branch Line) Road Information (Mt. Hehuan Area)

[Pavement Repair Works on Provincial Highway 14A (34km–36km, between Kenanguan and Xiaofengkou)]
From May 25 to June 12, traffic control will be in effect daily from 08:00 to 17:00.
Vehicles will be allowed to pass once every hour. Release times may be adjusted in coordination with traffic control at Provincial Highway 8, 114km+600 (Guanyuan section) and nearby work zones.
Including weekends and holidays.
[Road Resurfacing Works on Provincial Highway 14A (32km+800–33km, between Hehuan Villa and Shimen Mountain)]
From May 28 to June 12, traffic control will be in effect daily from 08:00 to 17:00.
Vehicles will be allowed to pass once every hour.

Subject: Traffic Control Measures for the 2026 Mt. Hehuan Rhododendron Season
Legal Basis: Article 5 of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act
Details:
1. Purpose:
To ensure traffic safety and maintain smooth traffic flow during the Rhododendron season in the Mt. Hehuan area.
2. Control Period:
From April 11 to June 14, 2026, on designated holidays (including weekends and the Dragon Boat Festival holiday.), for a total of 21 days, from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM each day.
The control period may be advanced, postponed, or canceled depending on actual bloom conditions, subject to the decision of the competent authority.
3. Control Section:
Provincial Highway 14A, from 18 km (Cuifeng) to 41.5 km (Dayuling).
4. Traffic Control Measures:
High-occupancy vehicle (HOV) control and traffic flow regulation will be implemented as follows:
(1) Control Points:
•    West: 18 km (Cuifeng Control Station) 
•    East: 41.5 km (Dayuling), intersection with Provincial Highway 8 (110 km) 
(2) HOV Regulation:
Passenger cars with three or more occupants are allowed to pass.
Shuttle buses and Class-B large buses are exempt from this restriction.
(3) Traffic Flow Control:
Activated by the Hualien County Police Bureau (Xincheng Precinct, Hehuan Police Station) depending on traffic conditions.
When implemented, 20 vehicles will be released every 10 minutes.
(4) Restrictions:
During control hours, large trucks and passenger cars with fewer than three occupants are prohibited.
Motorcycles and slow vehicles (including scooters) are not restricted.
5. Special Conditions:
Traffic control measures will not be implemented in the event of severe weather or when the Central Cross-Island Highway temporary access road is closed.
6. Amendments:
This notice may be revised at any time if necessary.

Reminder to Road Users
Mountain weather conditions are harsh and can change rapidly and unpredictably. Traffic control measures may be adjusted dynamically based on on-site conditions.
In addition, according to the 2026 Mt. Hehuan snow season regulations:
When snowfall, snow accumulation, or road icing occurs, Class-A and Class-B large buses, trucks over 3.5 tons, and all types of motorcycles and slow vehicles (including heavy motorcycles) are prohibited from entering the controlled section.
Drivers are advised to pay close attention to roadside variable message signs (VMS). The Traffic Control Center will provide real-time traffic updates and travel advice.

Provincial Highway 9 (Su-hua Highway) Traffic Control Information

1. Provincial Highway 9 (Su'ao–Dong'ao Section of Su-hua Improvement Highway) Traffic Control

June 29, 21:00 – June 30, 06:00: Southbound lane closure.
June 30, 21:00 – July 1, 06:00: Northbound lane closure.
Please follow on-site traffic control personnel and use Provincial Highway 9D as the detour route.

2. Provincial Highway 9, 117.6 km (Xin'ao Tunnel Equipment Room) Barrier Installation Works

June 9 – July 10
Construction zone will reduce available roadway width. Motorists are advised to slow down when passing through the work area.
Including weekends and holidays.

3. Provincial Highway 9 (Nan'ao–Heping Section of Su-hua Improvement Highway) Traffic Control

June 16, 21:00 – June 17, 06:00: Southbound lane closure.

Single-lane, two-way traffic under intermittent control.
When conditions permit and construction safety is not affected, two-way traffic may be opened.

8. Provincial Highway 9, 161.302 km–162.762 km (Huide Tunnel) Tunnel Lighting Maintenance Project

Single-lane, two-way traffic control.

9. Provincial Highway 9, 162.8 km (South Portal of Huide Tunnel) Slope Reconstruction Works
