After the April 3, 2024 earthquake, is Provincial Highway 8 open?
Yes, it is open. Provincial Highway 8 reopened in August 2024 after emergency repairs.
However:

Important Reminders
1. After heavy rain, typhoons, or earthquakes, the Central Cross-Island Highway has a higher risk of falling rocks. Please assess conditions carefully before entering.
2.The section from the Taroko entrance to Tianxiang was severely damaged. Most trails and scenic spots remain closed. Taroko Visitor Center, Dekalun, Dali-Datong trails, Tianxiang, and Lushui (partially opened) are open.
3. After passing the traffic control point, please follow the convoy through the gorge section and please do not stop along the way.
4. Please confirm road conditions before your trip.
