Issuing Authority: Taroko National Park Headquarters, National Park Service, Ministry of the Interior
Date: April 8, 2026
Ref. No.: Tai-He No. 1151003529
Subject: Announcement of Closure of the Hehuan River
Access Road Area in Taroko National Park
Legal Basis: Article 29, Paragraph 3 of the Disaster Prevention and Protection Act
Details:
Due to multiple landslides along the Huagang section of the Hehuan River access road on April 5, 2026, the river channel has been blocked, forming a barrier lake. Visitors and nearby residents are strongly advised not to enter the riverway or streambed. Hikers heading to Mt. Hehuan West Peak are requested to return via the original route and not descend toward the Hehuan River check dam. As a precautionary measure, the Hehuan River access road area within the park is closed effective from 12:00 PM on April 8, 2026.
The reopening of the Hehuan River access road will be announced separately, subject to the clearance of landslides and the mitigation of the barrier lake.
