“Impressions of Shakadang” Photography Exhibition Opens at Taroko Visitor Center on April 2, 2026
The powerful earthquake on April 3, 2024, caused severe damage to the Taroko Gorge. The Shakadang Trail also suffered extensive landslides and subsequent erosion from wind and rain, making it difficult to restore its former landscape and accessibility in the short term. The once breathtaking scenery—where crystal-clear streams intertwined with marble cliffs—has now fallen temporarily silent.
On the Day Before the 2nd Anniversary of the April 3 Earthquake, the Taroko National Park Headquarters has specially curated the “Impressions of Shakadang” Photography Exhibition. The exhibition will open on April 2 in the Special Exhibition Room of the Taroko Visitor Center, inviting visitors to revisit the valley landscapes through photographic memories.
This exhibition features nearly 100 precious works generously provided by photographer Yu Deng-liang, who has spent years exploring the gorge and riverbanks. Through his lens, he delicately captures the dialogue between water and stone. From the golden layers of sunlight illuminating the stream at dawn, to the soft hues of rocks veiled in mist and rain, and the purified clarity of the landscape after storms—each image reveals the unique and ever-changing vitality of Shakadang.
Although the trail is currently closed, these photographs not only preserve its past beauty but also carry deep emotional connections and memories of this land. Visitors are warmly invited to step into the exhibition, contemplate the tranquility and strength once found in the valley through light and shadow, and transform this inspiration into a shared commitment to protecting our natural environment. Together, we look forward to the day when this familiar and captivating landscape returns in a renewed form.
