Visitor Falls on Shakadang Trail — Taroko National Park Headquarters Urges Public Not to Enter Closed Areas
Taroko National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as TNP HQ) received a report from the Hualien County Fire Department at 1:20 p.m. today (Jan. 27) regarding an accident in which a local resident fell and was injured on a slope approximately 250 meters along the closed Shakadang Trail.
Upon receiving the report, TNP HQ immediately dispatched two rangers to assist at the scene. The injured individual has since been transported to a hospital for medical treatment, and the incident site has been properly cleared.
TNP HQ noted that the Shakadang Trail suffered severe damage from the April 3 (0403) earthquake, and the geological environment remains highly unstable. The trail is currently closed for repairs. To ensure public safety, clear safety barriers and “No Entry” warning signs have been installed at trail entrances and along access routes.
TNP HQ emphasized that loosened soil and rock in mountainous areas following the earthquake pose a high risk of rockfalls and landslides, especially in restricted zones. The public and local residents are urged to comply with all safety control measures and refrain from damaging barriers or entering non-open areas.
TNP HQ will continue strengthening patrols and calls on the public to respect access restrictions in order to protect their own safety as well as that of rescue personnel.
