Provincial Highway 14A – Cuifeng to Dayuling (18 km–41.5 km): Precautionary Road Closure
Forwarded from the Central Region Maintenance Engineering Branch, Directorate General of Highways Latest Traffic Information
According to the latest information from the Central Weather Administration, due to the influence of a strong continental cold air mass, there is a high probability of snow accumulation and icy road conditions on sections above 3,000 meters along Provincial Highway 14A and on high-altitude sections of Provincial Highway 8.
To ensure the safety of road users, the Directorate General of Highways will implement precautionary road closures starting at 5:00 p.m. today (Jan. 23) on the following sections:
• Provincial Highway 14A: from 18 km Cuifeng to 41.5 km Dayuling
• Provincial Highway 8: from 107 km to 110 km Dayuling
During the closure period, vehicles will be allowed to exit but not enter.
In addition, considering that the 31.7 km Wuling to 32.7 km Songxuelou section of Provincial Highway 14A is narrow, winding, and prone to skidding, this section will be fully closed in both directions, and all traffic will be prohibited.
On the morning of the following day (Jan. 24) at 8:00 a.m., traffic control measures will be adjusted based on weather and road conditions, and either restricted passage with snow chains installed or full reopening will be implemented.
Road users are advised to check weather forecasts and road conditions in advance, carry snow chains in their vehicles, and drive with caution at reduced speeds.
Important Reminder:
Mountain weather conditions are severe and change rapidly. Traffic control sections and measures may be adjusted flexibly according to on-site conditions. In accordance with the 2026 Hehuanshan Snow Season Regulations, when snowfall or icy road conditions occur, Class A and Class B large passenger vehicles, trucks exceeding 3.5 metric tons, and all types of motorcycles (including large heavy motorcycles) are prohibited from entering the controlled sections.
In addition, the Provincial Highway 8 Temporary Detour (Lin-37 Route) will add an evening passage at 5:30 p.m., exclusively for agricultural freight vehicles from the Dali-Shan area, traveling from Deji toward Guguan.
Road users planning to travel on Provincial Highway 8 or Provincial Highway 14A are advised that mountain road conditions during the snow season are difficult to predict. Unless absolutely necessary, travel is not recommended. Before departure, please ensure you are fully prepared with appropriate personal equipment and vehicle snow chains, closely monitor weather forecasts and traffic information, and plan alternative routes in advance.
