Provincial Highway 8 & 9 Traffic Control Information for November 2022. Due to the heavy rains and serious landslides, the road is closed for emergency repair at 117.4 km (Guanyuan Section) on Provincial Highway 8.

Road partially Open /Road closed Guanyuan section at 117.4 km, the Central Cross-Island Highway (Hwy. 8) will be reopened at 117.4 km on November 7, 2022.

 

The serious landslides occurred at 117 km + 400 m (Guanyuan section) on November 16, 2022. Traffic controls will be implemented from November 17, 2022 to ensure safe passage of people and vehicles. Provincial Highway 8 is closed for repair at 117.4 km at Guanyuan Section.

Provincial Highway 8 and 14A (14 Jia) Traffic Control Information for November 2022

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 187.7 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from November 1, 2022 –November 30, 2022.

Specifically:  

 

1. Provincial Highway 8 at 168 km + 500 m (Xianglu Tunnel section) for the Road Pavement Improvement Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: November 1, 2022– November 30, 2022 (Mon. - Fri.)

Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work

Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

The above construction site do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

 

2. Road closed section: The serious rockslides occurred at 117 km + 400 m (Guanyuan section) on Provincial Highway 8. This section of road will be closed for serious landslides repair. No people or cars are allowed to pass this section of highway.

Road Closed Control Period: November 1, 2022– November 7, 2022

Affected by continued heavy rains, disaster emergency repair road section at 117.4 km Guanyuan section has expanded, and the roadbed has lost about 50 meters, causing the road to be blocked again. Due to the difficulty of repair and severe landslides, it is estimated that this section road emergency repair will be completed on November 7, 2022

Take the alternative route. Bond for west Taiwan to Taichung or Nantou (The fastest route)

Take the Provincial Highway 9 from Xincheng to Su’ao, and change the Freeway 5 from Su’ao to Taipei (then connect the Freeway 3) and then take the Freeway 3 to Taichung or Nantou.

Time required: about 4.5 hrs - 5 hrs

Please plan your trip accordingly.

 

Note: Traffic controls for all the above #1 construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19 km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by the above list #1 (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14Jia) will be affected by #1-2 of the above list (for both directions). Please use the substitute route to reach Mt. Hehuan area, Nantou, or Taichung.

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip. Provincial Highway 9 Road Construction information for November 2022

 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Nan'ao Works Section) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety on Provincial Highway 9.

 

The Highway 9 will be the Slop Construction Work as the following:

 

Provincial Highway 9 at 117 km + 360 m (Dong’ao Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Control Period: November 1, 2022– November 30, 2022

Passage Time: Every 30 minutes

Please follow the on-site personnel instruction. Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.
