The serious rockslide occurred at 117 km + 400 m (Guanyuan section) on April 26, 2022. Provincial Highway 8 is closed for repair. The road will be reopened on May 11, 2022. Please plan your trip accordingly.
The substitute Route: Xincheng - Provincial Highway 9 (Luodong) – Provincial Highway 7A (7Jia) - Lishan – Provincial Highway 8 - Dayuling- Provincial Highway 14A (14 Jia)

Provincial Highway 8 and 14A Traffic Control Information for May 2022
The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 184.5 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from May 2, 2022 – May 31, 2022.
Specifically:
1. Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) at 32 km+900 (Hehuan Villa section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period: May 2, 2022– May 31, 2022
Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work
Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.
2. Provincial Highway 8 at 130 km + 400 (Ci’en section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period: May 2, 2022– May 31, 2022
Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the half hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:30 – 08:40, 09:30 – 09:40, 10:30 – 10:40 etc.)
Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.
3. Provincial Highway 8 at 152 km + 200 (Luoshao section) and 160 km +900 m (Xibao Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period: May 2, 2022– May 31, 2022
Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work
Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.
4. The serious rockslides occurred at 117 km + 400 m (Guanyuan section) on Provincial Highway 8.
(A) The road will be closed between 114.6 km – 126 km (between Kuayuan- Mt. Hehuan Police Station and Bilu Sacred Tree section) on the Provincial Highway 8.
Traffic Control Time: 7:00 pm – 17:00
Control Period: May 3, 2022– May 10, 2022
This road section will be closed for repair during the daytime.
(B) The road will be closed between 114.6 km – 151.7 km (between Guanyuan and Luoshao section) on the Provincial Highway 8 during the night.
Traffic Control Time: 17:00 pm May 3, 2022– the second morning 7:00 am
Control Period: May 3, 2022– May 10, 2022
This road section will be closed for repair.
Please plan your trip accordingly.
Note: Traffic controls for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays.
Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19 km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will not be affected by the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14Jia) will be affected by #1-4 of the above list (for both directions). Please use the substitute route.
The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip.
