Provincial Highway 8 and 14A (14Jia) Traffic Control Information for May 2021.
Road Open/Road Construction Traffic Control.

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 184.5 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from May 1, 2021 – May 31, 2021. 
Specifically:

1. Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) at 34 km + 180 m (Kenanguang Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period: May 1, 2021– May 31, 2021
Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work conditions.
Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 117k+380 (Guanyuan Bridge section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period: May 10, 2021– May 31, 2021
Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 144 km + 400 m (Hualuxi Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period: May 20, 2021– May 28, 2021
Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work conditions.

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 168 km + 260 m (Tianxiang Section) for the New Rockfall Prevention Tunnel Construction Work
Control Period: May 1 – May 31, 2021 (Except for May 4 and May 6, 2021)
Traffic Control Time: 24 hours 
A: Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on checking work conditions. (Mon. – Fri. 08:00 am – 17:00 Day time)
B: Passage Time: Accessibility follows the traffic lights. Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. (Sun – Mon 18:00- second morning 8:00 am including public holidays)

5. Provincial Highway 8 at 174 km + 900m (East Zhuilu Tunnel) for the lower slope stabilization construction work
A: Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period: May 1, 2021– May 31, 2021
Passage Time: Not predetermined - accessibility depends on construction work conditions. Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic.
B: Traffic Control Time: During no construction work traffic control period and 17:00 pm – the second morning 8:00 am (Sun – Mon, night time and including public holidays)
Control Period: May 1, 2021– May 31, 2021
Passage Time: Accessibility follows the traffic lights. Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. 

6. Provincial Highway 8 at 179k+100 (Xipan section) and 180.2 km (No. 2 Baisha Bridge Section) for the Upper Slope Stabilization Construction Work
Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm
Control Period: May 1, 2021– May 31, 2021
Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

Note: Traffic control for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays except for the above #4B and #5B. 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19 km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by #4-6 of the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14Jia) will be affected by #1-6 of the above list (for both directions).
The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip.
