Provincial Highway 8 and 14A (14Jia)) traffic control information for February and March 2021

Road Open/Road Construction Traffic Control.
 

The Fourth Maintenance Office of the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC (Taroko Works Division) is responsible for the maintenance of road safety within Taroko National Park. There will be roadwork between 32.7 km – 41.5 km on Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) and 110.2 km – 184.5 km on Provincial Highway 8 (Dayuling – Taroko) from February 22, 2021– March 31, 2021.

Specifically:
 

1. Provincial Highway 14A (14Jia) at 34 km + 180 (Kenanguang Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: February 22, 2021– March 31, 2021

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

 

2. Provincial Highway 8 at 117 km+380 (Guanyuan Section) for the Slope Stabilization Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: February 22, 2021– March 31, 2021

Passage Time: Every 1 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 – 08:10, 09:00 – 09:10, 10:00 – 10:10 etc.)

 

3. Provincial Highway 8 at 168 km + 260 m (Tianxiang Section) for the New Rockfall Prevention Tunnel Construction Work

Traffic Control Time: 24 hours

Control Period: February 22, 2021– March 31, 2021

Passage Time: Accessibility follows the traffic lights. Open one direction of traffic once at a time for both direction traffic. (Sun – Mon, 24 hrs including public holidays).

 

4. Provincial Highway 8 at 174 km + 900m (East Zhuilu Tunnel) for the Rockslides/landslides Damage Repair Construction Work (It takes about 15 minutes by car from the east entrance to Taroko Gorge just past Swallow Grotto (Yanzikou).

Traffic Control Time: 8:00 am – 17:00 pm

Control Period: February 22, 2021– March 31, 2021

Passage Time: Every 2 hour on the hour for 10 minutes (e.g. 08:00 - 08:10, 10:00 - 10:10, 12:00 - 12:10, 13:00 - 13:10, 15:00 - 15:10, 17:00) (Monday-Saturday)

No traffic control on Sundays and public holidays from February 27 to March 1, 2021)

 

Note: Traffic control for all the above construction sites do not apply on weekends and public holidays except for the above #1-2. Traffic control for #4 construction site do not control on Sundays and public holidays.

 

Visitors who are planning to visit Taroko Gorge (the 19km section between Taroko – Tianxiang) will be affected by #3-4 of the above list (for both directions). Visitors who are heading to Taichung or Puli, Nantou from Taroko National Park Headquarters via Provincial Highway 8 & 14A (14Jia) will be affected by #1-4 of the above list (for both directions).

The Directorate General of Highways urges drivers that, after a week after earthquake or heavy rain, roads in mountain areas are prone to rockfall and that it is advisable to avoid driving on these roads. Please remember to check the Provincial Highway real-time road condition bulletin, listen to police traffic road broadcasts, pay attention to road traffic related information, and plan your itinerary ahead of your trip.
